호기 놀이란? playing "Hogi Nori."

고려시대부터 조선시대까지 아이들이 사월 초파일 연등회를 준비하기 위해 호기 놀이가 성행했다. 호기 놀이는 아이들이 연등을 만들 비용을 마련하기 위한 놀이로 종이를 잘라 등대에 매달아 들고 이웃, 장터를 돌아다니며 쌀이나 돈, 천, 베등을 얻어서 그것을 밑천으로 연등 재료를 구입했다.

During the Goryeo and Joseon periods, children prepared for the Lantern Festival on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month by playing "Hogi Nori." This was a game where children collected materials to make lanterns. They cut paper to hang on poles and went around their neighborhoods and markets to ask for rice, money, cloth, or fabric. They used these items to buy materials for making lanterns.
